According to Candies, if you’re a teenager and you have sex, you’ll be doomed to pregnancy and never fulfill your life’s dreams.

“Don’t let a teenage pregnancy take away your freedom,” spouts Bristol Palin at the end of this video for The Candies Foundation and National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month.

If you’re a teen and pregnant, The Candie’s Foundation is implying you’re “doomed.” In conjunction with National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, the foundation released these series of celebrity-endorsed PSAs for its #NoTeenPreg campaign.

Think about what “shaming attitude” means, especially in conjunction with taglines like: “You’re supposed to be changing the world, not changing diapers;” and “You think being in school sucks? You know what sucks a lot more? A baby—every 2 hours for feeding time.”

Now, I’m not saying teen pregnancy is easy. Having a child is not easy at all…but “shaming” teens who are pregnant or who do have children already, promotes this attitude that you’re life is “over” should you get pregnant.

Not really the way to go Candies. Making motherhood sound like a punishment and shaming female sexuality isn’t going to prevent teen pregnancy.

And, I’m just curious…where are the posters for those doing the impregnating? Messages like “8 out of 10 fathers don’t marry the mother of their child” still sends a shaming signal to women.

Even if this is effective (it acctually makes me scared to have sex) it’s not a positive message or a good way to prevent pregnancy. This is just like the old ”don’t have sex or you’ll go to hell!” method, where they scare you so you don’t do something.

They should promote SAFE sexuallity. Teenagers are going to have sex wheter you like it or not. They WILL HAVE SEX. The best thing you can do is educate them and promote afordable, quality contraception and different view on sexuallity.

Teenage parents are in that situation because of not being informed enough. I don’t know about other places, but here in Peru young girls get pregnant because sex es a tabboo topic and because sex education is terrible (I am no an expert in this topic, it’s just from what i’ve expirienced and seen).
